Discover Hidden Creek Catfish

Walking into Hidden Creek Catfish for the first time felt like stepping into a familiar neighborhood diner where the staff already knows what you’re craving. Tucked along 393 US-64, Conway, AR 72032, United States, this place has built a steady reputation for Southern comfort food done right, especially when it comes to catfish. I’ve eaten catfish all over Arkansas, from church fundraisers to roadside shacks, and this spot stands out because it keeps things simple and consistent.

The menu focuses on what locals actually want to eat. Catfish fillets are the clear favorite, lightly breaded and fried until golden without drowning the fish in grease. A server once told me they soak the fillets in seasoned buttermilk before breading, a method widely recommended by Southern chefs because it keeps the meat tender while adding subtle flavor. That approach shows on the plate. The fish flakes cleanly, which is often used by food science researchers as a sign of freshness and proper cooking. According to USDA guidelines, catfish should reach an internal temperature of 145°F, and the texture here suggests they’re hitting that mark every time.

Sides matter just as much, and this diner doesn’t treat them like an afterthought. Hushpuppies arrive hot and crisp, with a soft center that hints at fresh batter rather than something frozen. Coleslaw is cool and balanced, cutting through the richness of fried fish. On one visit, I watched a cook prepping potatoes early in the afternoon, which explains why the fries taste like real potatoes instead of factory-cut strips. That hands-on prep is something the National Restaurant Association consistently points to as a marker of quality in independent restaurants.

Reviews from locals often mention portion sizes, and they’re not exaggerating. Plates come out loaded, making this a popular stop for families and work crews passing through Conway. I once shared a two-piece catfish plate with a friend after a long day on the road, and we still boxed up leftovers. That kind of value is one reason diners keep coming back, especially when prices everywhere else seem to creep up.

Service adds to the experience. The staff moves with the easy confidence of people who know their regulars. On a busy Friday night, I noticed servers checking in without hovering, refilling tea glasses before they were empty. Hospitality experts often stress that small actions like that build trust, and it shows here. You feel taken care of without being rushed.

The location makes it convenient for both locals and travelers. Sitting right on US-64, it’s an easy stop if you’re heading through Conway or coming back from a game or event. Parking is straightforward, and the dining room layout keeps things comfortable even when the place is full. While the décor is modest, it fits the diner vibe and keeps the focus where it belongs: on the food.

There are limits worth mentioning. The menu doesn’t change much, so adventurous eaters looking for trendy dishes might feel constrained. Hours can also vary around holidays, which is common for family-run spots, so checking ahead is smart. Still, for anyone who values reliable flavors, generous portions, and friendly service, this restaurant delivers exactly what it promises.

In a region where fried catfish is almost a benchmark for local pride, this diner earns its reputation through consistency and care. It’s the kind of place you recommend not because it’s flashy, but because you know the meal will be good every single time.

  • Went a little over a week ago for my mom's birthday on a Sunday after church. They allowed us to sit in a room where we could all be seated together. The buffet had catfish fillets, Cajun fillets, catfish steaks, frog legs, shrimp, fried chicken in a few different cuts ( wings, dummies, strips, whole pieces, etc. ) crawfish. The crawfish was seasoned extremely well. Now the only reason why I'm giving it a 4 star in food is because everything except maybe 4 hot side items were fried. Don't get me wrong, they were all good. It would have just been nice to have a baked or grilled meat item. The sides also included fried green tomatoes, corn nuggets, fried mushrooms, fried okra, french fries, etc. the only hot non fried items were corn on the cob, greens, baked beans, Mac and cheese, and broccoli. You still had your usual slaws, potato salad, green tomatoes, onion, etc. On the cold side. Now let's get to the dessert. I was told to try the cherry cobbler if I ever visited this place but got here and they had a blackberry cobbler in its place. It was 10/10. They also had banana pudding which to my surprise was very good, peach cobbler and pecan cobbler. Now the pecan cobbler needed a little help. It was very watery and runny and the dough wasn't done but the flavor was definitely there in the filling. The service was top tier. To be a buffet our drinks stayed full, our empty plates stayed clear, great conversation with the staff without being over bearing. So in conclusion, if you want good fish and food, great service, love fried food, in kid friendly/family atmosphere, this is the place to be.

  • Down home country style vibes. Hot fresh crispy catfish, frog legs, and shrimp.. lots of other options on the buffet as well. The desserts are mouthwatering delicious...if you are able to save room for them.

  • This was the best catfish buffet I’ve had in many years. My two sister and I came from Pine Bluff, scooped up our mom from Little Rock, and picked up our sister in Conway to have dinner at your fine establishment. The food was hot, delicious, and plentiful. Your staff was as kind as kind can be. Thank you for your service and for knowing how to serve all customers. We will surely return again soon

  • The food was good and it's an all you can eat buffet. A lot of people come there and the tables clear faster than I thought they would. I was able to eat frog legs. I haven't had them since I was a kid. I had cat fish, corn, frog legs, BBQ chicken bites, mac and cheese, broccoli, peach cobbler, and ice cream. There are many other food choices too. I'm also posting the hours because Google had them wrong at the time I went.

  • Catfish was excellent and plentiful. The catfish steaks are my favorite and cooked perfectly. Among the great sides was Mac and cheese and greens. The deserts were cobblers and banana pudding. Ice cream machine was available as well.
